Nikkō is a little more rural and has beautiful temples and natural scenery. Rinnō-ji (輪王寺) is a temple with 3 golden Buddha statues and is in the same UNESCO World Heritage site as the famous Shinkyō (神橋).
It also has the Edo Wonderland where you can experience the culture of the Edo period.
